Our Story
An award-winning city-centre pub serving up hot food, cold beer and a very warm welcome. Since 2003.
A Place Paul
Wanted to Be
When Paul Soden opened Café René in 2003, his vision was clear: create a place where people could eat, drink, and hang out in a vibe he'd want to be part of. The result is a relaxed space where great food, drinks, music, and — most importantly — good company come together seamlessly.
Whether it's a relaxing afternoon drink and a spot of lunch, a romantic evening meal in our candlelit dining room, or dancing and partying 'til the small hours of a weekend — there's a corner of René for every kind of night.
"It's the kind of place where every nook has a story, from the stone well in the centre to the wine bottle-lined ceiling — a perfect blend of rustic charm. Housed in a historic building, it has a cosy, character-rich atmosphere that makes the entire dining experience feel special and memorable."
Two Decades at the Heart of the City
